How Samples Can Help You Build Clientele

Anyone just starting a business knows how painful the first few years can be. Many businesses fail quickly, and a large part of the problem is attracting and retaining customers. No matter what product or service you are offering, you are bound to have competitors who can match your offer. As Time shows in “Giveaways Turn Tough Sales into Easy Sales,” sometimes you have to try unusual methods to attract attention.

Try Handing Out Samples

A large part of the difficulty in selling something is convincing people that they should be willing to pay for it. To convince people to buy something, you have to appeal to them by showing that you are offering something useful or fun; and there is no better way to convince people than to let them see for themselves. To that end, consider handing out samples or limited offers of your product or service so that people can experience and judge for themselves. Be careful to keep your offer within reason, though; you don’t want to offer something so complete that they have no further need of you. For example, if you are selling something like a cleaning service, try offering coupons for a cleaning at a lower price, or for cleaning a smaller area. Once you have the opportunity to show what you can do, your work will speak for itself.

Focus On Customer Service

Building a business does not just involve selling a product or service; you also have to show customers that you are the kind of person that they will enjoy working with and relying on. To that end, be willing to amend your sample based on what your customers want. Perhaps, rather than having your services at a reduced price, they would appreciate it more if you are willing to work odd hours, such as on the weekend. By showing that you listen to and care about what your customers want, your reputation will spread and you will find it much easier to keep your business going.
